Square Enix may be making headlines right now with the hype surrounding the Final Fantasy VII Remake and the upcoming Avengers video game, but that's not to say that the company has forgotten their JRPG roots. With their subsidiary studio, Tokyo RPG Factory, the company has been putting out games like Lost Sphear and I Am Setsuna, which are games that emulate the battle mechanics of older Final Fantasy games and Chrono Trigger.
Their latest project, Oninaki, takes more cues from Square Enix's SNES classic, Secret Of Mana, which is one of the first game's to perfect the Action RPG formula. Oninaki tells the tale of Kagachi, a Watcher who must oversee the balance between the living world and the world beyond. On his journey, he will harness the power of Daemons, meet new allies, and fight against the mysterious Night Devil.
While most of the game's introduction is shown in the trailer above, recently Square Enix Japan has been releasing character trailers of other members that will be joining Kagachi's adventure. Firstly, there's the axe-wielding warrior Wil, the rogue Rigan, Dia the ranger, and the latest reveal, Zaav who is very reminiscent of the Dragoon warriors that you'll find in Final Fantasy.
The demo of Oninaki is out right now for PC, PS4 and the Nintendo Switch. If you like the world of the game and the gameplay, the full game will be released on the 22n of August 2019.
